I think jetlag finally hit us today! After the drive from Nice on our first day and the excitement of yesterday’s mountain adventure we are a bit slow to rise and shine. We were staying in a wonderful Air B&B on Lake Annecy so we took a couple of hours to just sit and take in the view. There was a biking/walking path just out our back gate with people going by all day. This is a very active town, I’d like to go back in the summer to enjoy the watersports. I included a view of the crew teams out for early morning training.
We finally got moving and headed into the old town of Annecy where they have a marvelous Sunday market. It was a beautifully warm day to wander the cobblestone streets. We were offered tasty samples of fruit, candy, cheese, foie gras, duck sausage, olives, sweets and so much more. We bought way too much for our planned picnic, but we were unable to resist.

The river Thiou runs through the center of old town. It is only about 3.5 km long and is one of the shortest rivers in France. We enjoyed the walk with flower pots along the railings and ducks cruising below.
After the market we stopped for a lunch of fondue along the river. We had to try the fondue since we were in the Alps and so close to Switzerland. Later that night we went back into old town to see the village after dark with the pretty lights.
Time to pack up and get ready for our 5-hour drive to Sarlat -la-Caneda in the middle of Périgord Noir, part of Dordogne region. Check back to read about the cave paintings dating back 16,000 years!
